In the last video, I visited Foula, another remote island in Shetland. Fair Isle is the southernmost of the Shetland islands and is located further from the Shetland mainland than Foula, giving it the title of the UK's most remote inhabited island. Fair Isle lies between the Shetland main island and Orkney and you can travel there by ferry or plane. The island has been owned by The National Trust since 1954, a charity dedicated to preserving historic places and natural spaces for public benefit. I get to the island on the Fair Isle ferry and spend three nights there, learning more about this remote Scottish island. Fair Isle is known for Fair Isle knitting and its bird observatory and I meet many friendly locals who are so warm and welcoming.
