"The new Catskill Hospital is the culmination of my life's work, of what I've always wanted." That was Doctor Joseph A. D’Abbraccio talking about their $10 million, 15,000 square foot animal hospital that is being built in Rock Hill. We asked Doctor Joe why build it in Sullivan County and not someplace more populated. "We're servicing more than just Sullivan County residents. We're servicing people beyond that. I have clients driving two or three hours away to come to Sullivan County to provide access to veterinary care that their animals need, and they're looking for," he said. Thirteen years ago, he was working out of his car, making house calls, but he needed a hospital to provide the proper care for animals. "When I was working out of the hospital in Wurtsboro, I was utilizing their hospital for surgery procedures because I didn't have a hospital," D’Abbraccio said. "And that was eight years ago. I had worked there for four years, and then eight years ago, my now business partner, Danielle Carbon, bought into Catskill Vet Services. And we opened this location in Rock Hill." He says it's all about the animals. "It's my life's work. Like, what I've always wanted to have was these sorts of things available in advance, medicine and surgery for animals, no matter the species, no matter the, you know, the client's abilities or whatever, I can try and do the best I can in a local environment." They're hoping the grand opening will be next August.
