The missile attack on the elementary school in Iran’s Minab that claimed the lives of several students happened because of a targeting mistake by the US military, according to a report by the New York Times. According to Iranian officials, over 175 people, mostly children, were killed after Tomahawk missiles hit the Shajarah Tayyebeh elementary school building on February 28. An ongoing military investigation revealed that the US was behind the strike as it is the only country involved in the war that uses Tomahawk missiles. Besides, the probe also found that Washington attacked the school due to outdated intelligence data. According to US officials, the target coordinates were created using outdated data by the US Central Command. The data was provided by the Defence Intelligence Agency. The investigators are examining why the information had not been double-checked. History would record the striking a school full of children as one of the most devastating single military errors in recent decades. While the overall finding was largely expected — the United States is the only country involved in the conflict that uses Tomahawk missiles — it has already cast a shadow on the U.S. military operation in Iran.
