Egg Box Tiger

I’ve spent many years taking simple everyday forms and transforming them, often into simple models that children can make, and sometimes into more complex sculptures. I love how a simple egg box comes with all of the shapes you need, you just have to discover what goes where, it’s creative and inventive, but it’s also like a puzzle, and for me, that holds my attention. This tiger is made entirely from just two cartons, if you look closely you can see the very subtle difference in their colour, which I like. I had photos of tigers as reference, but as is often the case, I started to get imaginative. The sculpture started to look like an old terracotta relic, an ancient god etc . . . so my brain started adding textures and adapting things. That’s when true creativity occurs, when you are involved, engrossed, but open to suggestion, and willing to follow an unexpected path. Anyway, I hope you enjoy watching it ‘evolving’!
