Wide of people sitting on wall in front of posters STORYLINE: Twenty-seven years after her husband was ousted by a public revolt, Imelda Marcos has emerged as her Southeast Asian country's ultimate political survivor: she was back on the campaign trail this week, dazzling voters with her bouffant hairstyle, oversized jewelry and big talk in a bid to keep her seat in Congress. She's widely expected to capture a second three-year term in the House of Representatives in Monday's congressional and local polls. But at 83, the widow of Ferdinand Marcos, who astounded the world with her enormous shoe collection and lavish lifestyle amid the Philippines' appalling poverty, faces the final chapter of her tumultuous political life. The Marcoses fled the Philippines at the climax of an army-backed "people power" revolt which became a harbinger of change in authoritarian regimes worldwide. Ferdinand Marcos died in exile in Hawaii in 1989 and his body was returned in 1993 to his northern Philippine hometown of Batac in Ilocos Norte province, where it has been displayed in a glass coffin ever since. She won a new three-year congressional term in 2010 and is currently campaigning for a second of three maximum terms. "We care and love you all," says a sign at the door.
