Why did Daemon Targaryen choose Harrenhal during the Dance of the Dragons?

Daemon’s move was purely strategic. At the start of the war, Rhaenyra Targaryen’s forces were stuck on Dragonstone, far from mainland Westeros. They needed a strong base to gather allies—and Harrenhal was perfect. It is the largest castle in the Seven Kingdoms, capable of housing huge armies and withstanding long sieges. More importantly, it sits at the center of the Riverlands, near key roads and rivers. Controlling it meant controlling movement across much of Westeros. Daemon took it easily, as only a weak garrison remained, and used it to rally Riverlords to Rhaenyra’s side.
