Episode 1297 Rita (Barbara Knox) teases Mavis (Thelma Barlow) about Jerry (Graham Haberfield). Hilda (Jean Alexander) asks for a pattern for a ballroom gown, but Mavis suggests she could design one herself. Rita tells Len (Peter Adamson) that she and Mavis will agree to handle the early morning newspaper deliveries each day except Sunday if they are given a pay rise. Glyn (Alan David) admits to Bet (Julie Goodyear) that he could be taking over the Rovers. Glyn asks Lucille (Jennifer Moss) to apologise to Minnie (Margot Bryant) for him and invite her in for a free drink. Hilda sketches out her own design for a ballroom gown and gives Stan (Bernard Youens) £4 to buy a tailor’s dummy via postal order. Jerry is upset that he can’t get No.9 to himself to invite Mavis over, so he arranges to meet her the following night instead. Stan returns with a second-hand tailor’s dummy he claims he bought from Tommy Deakin (Paddy Joyce) for £1, but when Lucille mentions that Tommy had offered her the dummy for only 25p, Hilda realises Stan has overcharged her. Minnie refuses to accept Glyn’s apology. Glyn plans to modernise the Rovers. Ray (Neville Buswell) checks his football pools coupon and is convinced he has won.
