Exploring Almaty, Kazakhstan | Kok-Tobe Hill & Independence Square

Where else can you find a giant Golden Warrior, a UFO-shaped Soviet palace, and the Beatles on a mountain… all in one city? In this vlog I’m exploring Almaty, Kazakhstan, starting at Independence Square with its towering Golden Warrior Monument before heading across to the Kok-Tobe cable car. From the top of Kok-Tobe Hill you get sweeping views over Almaty and the Tian Shan mountains, plus one of the quirkiest sights in Central Asia — the world’s only full-band Beatles statue! Along the way I check out the Children’s Republican Palace (a Soviet-era youth centre shaped like a golden yurt/UFO), the Palace of the Republic Square with its statue of Kazakhstan’s national poet Abai Qunanbaiuly, and share some local travel tips for getting around Almaty on buses using the Onai card/app. This vlog is a mix of history, Soviet landmarks, modern city vibes, and random surprises — showing why Almaty is such a fascinating city to explore.
