We explore Dampier, learning about salt mining, and pay a visit to the iconic Red Dog statue, celebrating Australia’s favourite outback canine. A sombre discovery takes us to the site of the Flying Foam Massacre, one of Australia’s largest massacres of Aboriginal people. The Flying Foam Massacre occurred around Flying Foam Passage on Murujuga (Burrup Peninsula) in Western Australia, carried out by colonial settlers between February and May 1868. This series of atrocities was in retaliation for the killing of a police officer, a police assistant, and a local workman. The massacre resulted in the deaths of an unknown number of Jaburara (or Yaburrara, Yapurarra) people, with estimates ranging from 15 to 150 dead men, women, and children.
