1-11-2026 Instrumental Sermon Title: A New Way of Living Key Text: Matthew 5.1-12 Corey Trevathan, Senior Minister Summary: What does it mean to be blessed? We live in a world that often associates blessing with those whose lives are headed in the right direction. And sometimes we slip into that way of thinking. We think that people are blessed who have it all together. We think people are blessed who are healthy and wealthy. When we get a front row parking spot at HEB, we may say, "Thank You, Lord!" While it’s right and good to give God glory for everything, even that front row parking spot, if we want to give a faithful Biblical witness to what it means to be "Blessed," we may need to rethink what that word really means. For those who choose to follow Jesus and be His disciples, we are invited into a new way of living in His Kingdom. A new way of living where God is with us, God is for us, and God blesses those who choose to walk with Him. Bottom Line: You are blessed when you walk with Jesus and trust Him, even when life is hard. SMALL GROUP QUESTIONS: 1. When you hear the word “blessed,” what’s the first thing that usually comes to mind? 2. 3. When in your life have you felt blessed because things were going so well? When in your life have you felt blessed even when you were walking through a difficult time? 4. Jesus begins the Sermon on the Mount by describing who is blessed (Matthew 5:3–12). What stands out to you most about the people Jesus calls “blessed”? 5. 6. How does Jesus challenge or reshape how we usually think about blessing? Read the Beatitudes, Matthew 5.3-12, and ask: Which Beatitude do you find most difficult to live out right now—mourning, humility, mercy, peacemaking, or trusting God in hardship? Why? 7. What might trusting Jesus look like for you this week in a very practical way?
