Meet Our Featured Speakers: Dr. Ashley Allen, Executive Director of the Houston Community Land Trust (HCLT). As the leader of HCLT, Dr. Allen has been instrumental in shaping one of the largest CLTs in the country. She shares insights on: How HCLT got started, its key programs, and the major lessons learned along the way. A candid discussion on the complexities of working with city government, including the challenges and critical takeaways from that partnership. Advice and suggestions for others as they look at forming partnerships with their own local governments. An overview of HCLT's current projects and the challenges and opportunities they are navigating now. Hope Williams, Board Member of the San Francisco Community Land Trust (SFCLT). Hope is a passionate advocate for community control and a dedicated board member at SFCLT, an organization known for its work in preserving affordable housing and preventing displacement. Hope explores: Her personal journey and how she got involved in community stewardship work. How SFCLT was founded and the key programs and approaches they have implemented. How SFCLT has collaborated with the city to change the local ecosystem around community ownership of housing. The current projects SFCLT is working on, and the challenges and opportunities they see in San Francisco. This session was made possible through a collaboration between Right to the City Alliance and Kheprw Institute.
