This video shows how to perform a Pantry Inventory and Meal Planning. My kids requested I create a video series on the steps needed before food is purchased (AKA How do I know what to buy?). Step 1 is knowing where you stand, and for that you need an inventory of the food you own. A possible step 2 is to meal plan using only what you have on hand, then doing a fresh inventory at a later date once the meal plans have been followed. My kids said the first video I posted on Inventory was too high a level for a newbie (Bonus points if you were one of the 3 subscribers to view it). I took it down and reworked it based on their thoughts. My kids wanted to dial in on the intersection of food on hand and how to know what to cook/how much to cook. As a result, this video is simpler, with a focus on how different households might view a given amount of food differently. The video looks at 3 different households (1 person, 3 people, and 6 people) and the number of days they could meal plan using the food in the example (3 days, 2 days, and 1 day) before needing to grocery shop or reevaluate. The expired juice box was left in the example, because it is realistic to discover expired food when you perform an inventory. The Inventory: 12 Eggs 8 Bananas 3 Limes 2 Apples 6 small Clementines 1 Juice box - Fruit blend 64% juice- expired 2 cups Milk 1 cup Sour Cream 4 cups gf Oatmeal 4 pounds Carrots 1/3 a bunch of Celery 1 pound sharp Cheddar Cheese Small block Parmesan Cheese 1@8 ounces seasoned Tomato puree 1@7 ounces sliced Mushrooms 1@4 ounces Sardines 1@8 ounces diced Pineapple 2@7 ounces Tuna 1@16 ounces Garbanzo Beans (Chickpeas) *all decimals rounded up. All Meal Plans tossed the expired juice box out. The Meal Plan - 1 Person for 3 Days 3 eggs any style with fresh juice (oranges & pineapple – blended, maybe dash of lime juice?) Sardines or tuna w/ carrot & celery sticks. Bananas as a snack. Grind oatmeal in food processor until flour. Add egg and milk (and sour cream if needed) to create pancakes (make day 1, save and reheat leftovers). Serve with applesauce made from the apples. The Meal Plan - 3 People for 2 Days Oatmeal made with milk & water. Serve with salt. Blend chickpeas to create hummus (season with lime?). Serve with carrot & celery sticks. Fruit bowl as snack. 2 eggs any style with cheese and mushrooms on the top or the side. Consider tomato sauce as a side. The Meal Plan - 6 People for 1 Day Oatmeal made with water with pineapple mixed in. Served with bananas. Sardines or tuna w/ carrot & celery sticks. Serve with orange and apple slices. 12 Eggs scrambled with cheese & mushroom, and served with tomato sauce on the side. Along with ice water with lime slices.
