This is a quick guide to using different types of irrigation & sprinkler system pressure gauges to test the static & dynamic pressure of the system. A pressure test should always be performed before installing a new sprinkler system to determine the static pressure. This can be used as a design tool to help determine how many sprinklers can be installed on one zone, and calculate the length of drip tubing. The most common cause of drip irrigation failure is lack of pressure. If your drip system is not watering, and/or, appears that the emitters might be clogged, there is a good chance that the pressure is too low. Each manufacture of drip tubing or dripper line has a different pressure requirement. Example: Netafim Techline CV requires a minimum of 15psi for each dripper to operate (open). If the pressure is less than 15psi, the drippers will not open and the tubing may appear to be clogged. Refer to the specific drip manufacture to obtain the pressure rating on your irrigation system.
