In this video you'll see me attempt to pass smog check in my datsun 280z using a little Ethanol E85 in my gas tank. My Datsun 280z recently failed smog for the first time in a couple of years. We have restored a lot of things on this car since we've owned it and I'm not sure why it won't pass smog. We have a somewhat new catalytic converter, new injectors, a refurbished AFM, and a variety of other improvements. With all of these new elements being installed and presumably tuned correctly, our car should be passing smog. My only inclination is that our catalytic converter must be going bad! I plan to redo the exhaust this year so this should all get sorted in due time, but to try to pass the emissions test I'm going to put 1 gallon of e85 in 4 gallons of gas to see if that leans out our fuel mixture enough to help pass smog. I've read online that this can work, or it can at least help, so let's see the results. Can Ethanol-Rich gas improve my emissions enough to pass smog?? Let's find out!
