Track 8 from their fourth album “Dog and Butterfly” released in 1978 copyright Portrait Records. It was recorded at Sea-West Studios in Seattle and Capitol Studios in Hollywood. This was their first album to include songs co-written with Sue Ennis. The Wilson sisters met Ennis when she shared a class with Ann in junior high school in Seattle. They became friends through their shared love of music and Ennis would go on to co-write more than eighty songs with Ann & Nancy. It was also the last album to feature founding member and lead guitarist Roger Fisher. I’d say this album has a sense of maturity about it and shows the band at their peak. It was another of several masterpieces and Mike Flicker’s production was inspired and perfect. I find it hard to believe that it only received average reviews and some were quite critical at the time. Regardless of those opinions, it reached No. 17 on the Billboard chart and No. 9 in Canada. It was certified Platinum in Canada and 2X Platinum in the U.S. Written by Ann Wilson, Nancy Wilson, Sue Ennis & Roger Fisher and produced by Mike Flicker, Heart & Michael Fisher. Featuring: Ann Wilson – Lead & background vocals, piano on “Nada One” & chimes on “Dog and Butterfly” Nancy Wilson – Rhythm, acoustic & 12-string guitars, harmonica & background vocals, lead vocal on “Nada One” Roger Fisher – Lead, rhythm and steel guitars Howard Leese – Rhythm guitars, piano & electric piano, Avatar, Moog synthesizer, mridangam conga, background vocals & string arrangements Steve Fossen – Bass & dholak drum Mike Derosier – Drums, chimes on “Mistral Wind” No wind when I took the watch, my ship was still and waitin' I lay on that mirrored sky, a restless sailor waitin' I closed my eyes, said the words of will For the gentle breathin' that moves the sea and make my sails fill Whisper waves cloud the glass, awake at last like a lover It rushed around me talkin' sweet, roll over, roll over, roll over And in my ear he blew his name, it sounds so strange but I heard it plain Mistral, Mistral Wind I've always held the wheel but I let the wind steal my power Spin me 'round, lose my course, nights run by like hours, yeah And it would show me the way to the deepest mountains Too high and beautiful to be, oh, Mistral, Mistral Wind, yeah, yeah Oh, now I was on the watch, I's waitin' for that breeze to move me Woo, move me, move me, move me Blow me back to that place, magic space all through me And I sigh your name across the empty water You made a crazy dreamer out of me, oh Mistral, Mistral, Mistral, Mistral, Mistral, Mistral
