Boundary Waters Canoe Area- Brule Lake

We camped, canoed and fished Brule Lake in the BWCA for about a week. We just set up one base camp and did not do any portaging. The fishing was at times slow but when the wind blew it got really good. I also caught quite a few fish from shore. Some really huge smallmouth bass were caught. They are really fun to catch and fight like hell! I did manage to catch 3 walleye and have our fish fry! The campsites are all nice but some are nicer than others so choose carefully. It is nice to be able to fish from shore or get a breeze blowing through camp to keep the bugs down. We liked the island campsites because most have easy access to the water and bears are not as much of a threat as on the mainland. Also look for a site with easy in and out of your canoes. The weather was great except for 1 night of rain and some drizzle the next morning but we were set up so well that it did not even matter! The Boundary Waters Canoe area is a unique and beautiful place, I will be back there soon!
