"You'll never know the beauty I see when you open your shadows." ~ EDIT: I GOT IN WITH 7th PLACE AHHH I'M SO HAPPY Hey guys, so here's my MDS amv! Yes, I decided to join MDS contest again. And yes, you saw the timestamp right-- this amv is 5 and a half minutes long. Am I crazy for thinking I could do 5 and a half minutes in three busy weeks of school? Yes, yes I am-- but I managed somehow :D Anyways let's talk about this amv: so I started this project in mid February. I really wanted to edit a Starset song but I didn't know what anime, so I asked Hannah what anime would fit to a Starset song and she persuaded me to watch Mahoutsukai no Yome! When I watched this anime and then heard this song, I knew it would fit. Seriously, the line "you'll never know the beauty I see when you open your shadows" just-- ahhh it literally screams Chise and Elias! One issue was that the song was originally 7 minutes long, and I knew I wasn't editing 7 minutes so I tried to cut it down but I could only cut it to 5 and half minutes. Well, actually, I originally cut it down to 5 minutes but I had to extend it by another 30 seconds because I felt like this song is just too good to cut too much and I really needed most of the whole song since I had so many aspects of the story I wanted to show-- Chise's backstory, meeting Elias, all the sweet moments of Chise and Elias, all the dark moments of Chise and Elias, and of course the ending of this amv-- Chise's death. Chise's death was one of the most interesting parts for me to edit since there aren't any scenes in the anime of her dying of course, so I had to do a bit of manipulation here and there, and it was really fun to make :D Overall, this amv was one of the most fun projects I've created! I enjoyed every second of working on it (aside from the tedious process of scene selection for 5 and half minutes). I'm satisfied with how the final outcome turned out and I think it shows how my style has improved since last year's video! For both years I ended up choosing drama songs with high emotional drops/climaxes haha, I think I did a lot better this time around though! Also if making this edit has shown me anything it's that I have a fetish for optical flares. So, this year is MDS's last contest, so I really wanted to put my all into my amv, with a project that best shows my style, simple as my style is. MDS has always been a huge inspiration for me. One specific project of MDS that impacted my editing was their Don't Let Me Down MEP! When I just started editing in July of 2016, their Don't Let Me Down MEP recently came out at the time, and I watched it and it was the greatest edit I'd ever seen. It was a MEP that inspired my raw style from the start and helped me build the foundations of my editing. MDS has been my dream studio since and so I put my all into this entry.
