'I Can't Make You Love Me' by Mike Reid and Allen Shamblin famously recorded by Bonnie Raitt. Trumpet players have been asking for years and years… When is someone going to build a pocket, or at least a much smaller flugelhorn. Something that sounds like a flugelhorn, that’s easy to play, uses my usual flugelhorn mouthpiece, that looks good and takes up half the space in my bag. Well, its here. Taylor have been making the Phat Boy flugelhorn for over 10 years now and in that time it has become established as probably the best flugelhorn you can buy right now. Using all that design and building experience Taylor have done it again. This time with the Phat Puppy. It’s no secret that that main issue with making a super compact flugelhorn has been the fat taper of the bell. It’s just too fat and unwieldy to wrap into tight spaces. The solution was to design a radical new bell taper than kept the fat big end where a lot of the tone generation comes from and put the middle section on a diet. The result speaks for itself. It’s physically easier to play than a regular flugelhorn, it responds quicker than a regular flugelhorn, yet is still capable of that fluffy sweet sound that comes from a well set up flugelhorn with a good set of chops behind it. Just like any other flugelhorn, blow it wrong and will sound wrong. Blow it sweet and it will respond sweet. Check out Bryan Corbett playing the Phat Puppy in the video. This is a no tricks recording. It is one take, no overdubs, no edits, a Vintage Sennheiser 442, tiny touch of reverb, no other toys and the eq is SET FLAT. Ok, so Bryan is good. Did you really think we would ask someone who wasn’t! The rest is up to you. Want one? You need to get on the order list then. We are now ready to take deposits. Trades considered. But Andy… How much? A very reasonable 2650 GB Pounds or 3650 US Dollars in raw brass, or 2950 GB Pounds or 3950 US Dollars in straight lacquer at current exchange rates. Custom finishes extra. Price includes a mouthpiece, but no case. There you have it. A small working flugelhorn is now a reality. Please, spread the word. www.taylortrumpets.com Official channel of Bryan Corbett. http://www.bryancorbett.co.uk
