平和公園は、長崎県長崎市にある公園。平和記念公園とも呼称されるが正式名ではありません。 昭和20年（1945年）8月9日にアメリカが投下した原子爆弾の爆心地周辺地域に築かれました。 爆心地から1キロ圏内では、住民のほとんどが即死したといわれます。 家屋やその他の建物などは紛砕し、爆心付近は同時に焼失しました。 当時、長崎の人口は24万人。原爆により7万人以上が1945年の年末までに死亡しました。 原爆により焼けただれた被爆者たちは「水を、水を」と呻きながら亡くなったといいます。 その痛ましい被爆者の冥福を祈り公園内に平和の泉は作られました。 この泉には、水を求めて彷徨った少女の手記を刻んだ石碑が設置され惨状を我々に伝えてくれています。 平和公園のシンボルである平和祈念像は、神の愛と仏の慈悲を象徴しています。 毎年8月9日は「長崎原爆の日」と定め、この像の前で平和祈念式典がとり行なわれています。 長崎市原爆資料保存委員会の報告によると、死者は7万3884人、重軽傷者7万4909人と推計。 なお、この他に1927人の行方不明者がおり、いずれも亡くなったと考えられています。 悪魔の爆弾は、一瞬で街全体を焼き尽くし多くの人命を奪い去りました。 戦時とはいえ、アメリカのこの非道な行いを平和公園は祈りを添えて歴史に刻んでいます。 我々人類は、この歴史を永遠に忘れてはいけません。 平成百景／長崎県長崎市 ____________________________________________________ Peace Park is located in Nagasaki City, Nagasaki Prefecture. The Peace Fountain was created to pray for the repose of the souls of the atomic bomb survivors. At this fountain, a stone monument inscribed with the memoir of a young girl who wandered around in search of water conveys the devastation to us all. The Peace Statue, the symbol of Peace Park, symbolizes the love of God and the mercy of Buddha. Every year, August 9th is designated as "Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Day," and a peace prayer ceremony is held in front of this statue. According to a report by the Nagasaki City Committee for the Preservation of Atomic Bomb Materials, the death toll was estimated at 73,884 and 74,909 people were seriously injured. In addition, there were 1,927 missing persons, all of whom are believed to have died. The devil's bombs burned down the entire city in an instant, claiming many lives. Even though it was wartime, the Peace Park has engraved this atrocity of the U.S. into history with a prayer.
