The brand new Superman (2025) movie — the first film in James Gunn’s DC Universe reboot — has finally been released, and I’ve got some very mixed feelings. While there are parts of the movie I absolutely loved, there are also major elements that didn’t land for me. On the positive side, the character work is incredibly strong. This version of Clark Kent / Superman, played by David Corenswet, brings a refreshing and emotionally resonant take on the Man of Steel. His chemistry with Lois Lane (played by Rachel Brosnahan) is one of the film’s standout elements, and their dynamic helps ground the story in something heartfelt and sincere. Lex Luthor also delivers an intriguing performance that reimagines the classic villain for a new generation. However, my biggest issues lie in the film's tone and worldbuilding. The comic book aesthetic and heightened tone make the world feel a bit disjointed. While James Gunn is known for blending humor and heart in his storytelling, this time the balance feels a bit off. The larger DCU setup and easter eggs, while exciting for fans, often distract from the core narrative. This video explores all of that and more.
