The Brisbane Airport is the primary international gateway to Queensland, located about 14 km northeast of central Brisbane. As Australia’s third-busiest airport (after Sydney and Melbourne), it plays a vital role in connecting Queensland to Asia, the Middle East, North America, and the Pacific. In recent years, annual passenger numbers have generally exceeded 20 million travelers, reflecting its importance as both a tourism and business hub. As the busiest airport in Queensland, it not only serves the state capital but also connects popular resort destinations such as the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast. It serves as a key gateway for international travelers exploring the Great Barrier Reef and Australia’s east coast. The airport occupies an expansive site of approximately 2,700 hectares, making it one of the largest airports in Australia by land area. A major milestone in its development was the opening of its second parallel runway (01R/19L) in July 2020. The original main Runway 01L/19R, has been in operation since 1988. With two long parallel runways capable of handling the largest commercial aircraft, Brisbane Airport significantly increased its capacity and operational efficiency, particularly during peak periods. Brisbane Airport is one of the few airports in Australia with parallel runways that operate independently without interference from each other. In Australia, the vast majority of airports with dual runways (or two or more runways) have been designed with intersecting layouts. This configuration does not allow aircraft to operate simultaneously on different runways; instead, movements must be staggered, which reduces the airport’s overall takeoff and landing efficiency. However, these restrictions do not apply at Brisbane Airport. The airport consists of two main passenger terminals: The Domestic Terminal, serving extensive intercity routes across Australia. The International Terminal, handling long-haul and regional international flights. These terminals are connected by Airtrain rail services and shuttle buses. The layout is relatively compact compared to Sydney or Melbourne, making transfers straightforward and passenger flow efficient. A wide range of airlines operate at Brisbane. Major Australian carriers include Qantas and Virgin Australia, while international airlines include Cathay Pacific, Singapore Airlines, Emirates, and Air New Zealand. From Brisbane, passengers can fly to destinations such as Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo, Los Angeles, Dubai, Auckland, and numerous Pacific island destinations, in addition to comprehensive domestic coverage including Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, and Cairns. Cathay Pacific and Singapore Airlines are the two airlines offering the most flights between Australia and the Far East, bringing great convenience to the Asia-Pacific region. China Airlines operates flights to Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne in Australia, a total of three destinations in Australia. EVA Air currently only operates flights to Brisbane, a total of one destination in Australia. Taiwanese airlines do not have the traffic rights to fly "Directly" to New Zealand, but China Airlines has flights via Brisbane to Auckland, the New Zealand's largest city. For aviation enthusiasts, Brisbane Airport is particularly attractive. The dedicated Viewing Platform (Viewing Platform BNE) near Acacia Street offers an excellent vantage point of the parallel runways. From here, photographers can capture aircraft rotations, heavy international departures, and simultaneous parallel runway operations—especially dramatic during golden hour when aircraft line up against Queensland’s clear skies. 0:00 Start 1:20 Alliance Airlines Fokker 100 taxiing to Runway 19L (Brisbane to Rockhampton). 1:43 Jetstar Airways 787-8 taxiing to Runway 19R (Brisbane to Tokyo Narita). 2:22 Virgin Australia 737-8 MAX taxiing to Runway 19L (Brisbane to Perth). 2:50 Virgin Australia 737-800 taxiing to Runway 19L (Brisbane to Queenstown). 3:30 Qantas 737-800 landing on Runway 19L (Sydney to Brisbane). 4:00 Qantas 737-800 taxiing to Domestic Terminal (Mackay to Brisbane). 4:17 Singapore Airlines A350-900 taxiing to Runway 19R (Brisbane to Singapore). 5:06 Air Niugini 767-300ER landing on Runway 19L (Port Moresby to Brisbane). 5:38 QantasLink DHC-8 400 (Dash 8 Q400) taxiing to Domestic Terminal (Emerald to Brisbane). 5:53 Philippine Airlines A321neo taxiing to International Terminal (Manila to Brisbane). 6:50 Air New Zealand 777-300ER landing on Runway 19L (Auckland to Brisbane). 7:19 China Southern Airlines A350-900 taxiing to Runway 19R (Brisbane to Guangzhou). 8:20 Qantas 737-800 taxiing to Runway 19L (Brisbane to Melbourne). 8:48 Nauru Airlines 737-800F taxiing on Taxiway. 9:16 Qantas A330-300 taxiing to Runway 19R (Brisbane to Tokyo Narita). 10:25 China Airlines A350-900 landing on Runway 19L (Taipei Taoyuan to Brisbane).
