visit: https://www.ysguys.com Recruiting analyst Jeff Hansen joined Y’s Guys just days after National Signing Day to break down BYU’s highest-rated recruiting class in program history. He began by reacting to BYU’s appearance in the Big 12 Championship Game, calling the loss a “bummer” but also a valuable teaching moment. For Jeff, the game clearly showed where BYU is already very good — and where the program still needs to grow to reach “elite” status. The biggest takeaway: BYU must continue to upgrade in the trenches, on both the offensive and defensive lines, to close the gap with teams like Texas Tech. Jeff explained that BYU’s O-line has made major strides, but against elite defensive fronts, they still needed extra blockers, which limited the playbook. Defensively, BYU’s edge rushers — like Hunter Clegg, Lia Kana, and the emerging EY Efo — show high upside, but the interior defensive line needs more depth and explosiveness. When BYU strengthens both fronts, Jeff said, everything else becomes easier. He also highlighted how Texas Tech’s rebuilt O-line elevated QB Baron Morton, using it as a model for what BYU must develop moving forward. On recruiting, Hansen confirmed that BYU’s 2026 class is not only elite — it’s better than the famous 2010 class. With twice as many four-star recruits, multiple Power Four battles won, and a long list of players with national offers, Jeff said the staff “hit a home run.” The biggest headline grabbers were the Pula twins, Keenan (S) and Jaron (WR), who flipped from Utah on the final day of the signing window. Jaron reminds Jeff of Simi Fehoko’s play style, while Keenan made one of the most impressive interceptions he’s ever seen at the high school level. He also pinpointed immediate contributors like Bob Moley Talo, a converted defensive lineman whose first season at offensive tackle already shows NFL potential. Jeff ended by forecasting BYU’s future. He believes the foundation laid by mission-ready quarterback Ryder Lyons, elite DL prospect Lo Petti Wallace, and others gives BYU the clay it needs to build something special by 2028–29. He praised Kalani Sitake’s new contract and expanded NIL resources, saying they ensure BYU can both keep its young stars (like Bear Bachmeier and Aisa Aisa-Vasi) and compete in the transfer portal. He also touched on Kyle Whittingham’s future, predicting the Utah coach will return at least one more year — and joked he won’t retire until he beats BYU again. #byufootball #BYURecruiting #JeffHansen #GoCougs #Ysguys #Big12Football #CougarNation #KalaniSitake #CollegeFootball #RecruitingInsider #LDS #BYU
