Görner was a German Baroque composer who was born in Penig near Chemnitz, Saxony, and who died in Hamburg. He was schooled in Dresden and Leipzig, had several short appointments at German courts, and then settled in Hamburg as teacher and ultimately musical director at the Mariendom. He worked closely with GP Telemann, the dominant musical figure in Hamburg at the time, and they co-edited the first German musical magazine, "Der getreue Music-Meister". This neat little Passacaglia (it is more realistically a chaconne) was printed in it in 1728 and thus preserved, unlike most other of his compositions that were lost over time. The piece was played from a sheet music restitution by Pierre Gouin and is presented in a Werckmeister temperament. Instrument: Johannus Monarke "Breughel".
