This video demonstrates how a tow-vehicle attached winch can be used with a pole and bracket contraption to assist with the opening of an ALiner Expedition with two dormers. The dormers make the roof panels too heavy for one person to set up, but with this simple assist device, it took less than 10 minutes even on the second practice try. Now that I've had more practice, it takes about five minutes total. As a bonus, the assist device also stabilizes the roof so that there's no possibility of it collapsing while you're inside pushing up the side walls. If you have personal experience with an Aliner that has two dormers and no struts, I'd love to hear what you think about this. The standard Aliner is easy for one person to open, but this one is different. And as you can see from some comments below, I'm not the only one who has this problem (either because of dormers or rebuilt roof panels that are heavier than standard). A ginpole is one time-tested solution for lifting more weight than a single person can handle, but I'd be interested to hear what others who have problems lifting as much weight as this non-standard configuration requires have come up with to resolve the issue.
