The Holocaust (also known as the Shoa) is the genocide the nazis committed on the Jewish population during the Second World War. After the German invasion of Poland many Jews and Polish people were shot by the nazis. This first mass scale killings were mass shootings but these methods seemed ineffective. So the nazi leaders switched to mass killings by gas. During the Wannsee Conference this so-called 'Final Solution' was presented. The extermination of Jews by gas happened in several extermination camps (also known as nazi death camps). Perhaps the most well known and notorious was Auschwitz, back then locatied in Nazi occupied Poland.
