I actually started making this "Social Distance" song back in February or March 2020, toward the start of the pandemic. I was already quarantining in NYC and trying to stockpile the necessary supplies to "stay inside for a month or two," like friends of friends I knew had in Wuhan. I didn't expect the pandemic to be so bad for over an entire year, but just like the making of this song and music video, things took a lot longer than I expected. 📅 💩 💩 💩 💩 I don't know about you, but everything has just been HARDER and more time-consuming in the pandemic. It's like all the fun and joy was sucked away---no travel, no seeing friends and family, and all the other delightful things that keep me inspired and creatively stimulated. Thank god for art, or else I might not have stayed as sane! 🤪 FUN FACT: This video was 100% filmed by myself, my partner, or my cousin Spezshal K, who quarantined in New York with me for a while. Therefore, it has a certain extra "indy" quality that so many things in this time period have. This song is my lighthearted "PSA" on social distancing and other personal hygiene and public health tips. It's also social commentary on this dark, terrible, hard time known as the pandemic. Like my dad always says, "If you can't laugh, you can always cry." So hopefully you get a kick out of my soviet gas mask I got in Vietnam a few years ago, among other ridiculous things I put in here.
