For those wondering, the 6T70 transmission has a non-serviceable internal filter. Watch this video for clarity: • 6T70 Teardown Skip to 29:07 to see the filter being removed. You'll see it's just not feasible to change the filter unless you have major problems. Spring is finally here!! With the warmer temps, it's time to do a semi-annual drain and fill of the transmission in my 2012 Impala (Midnite.) The 2012-2013 Impala and 2014-2016 Impala Limited are equipped with a 6T70e 6-Speed automatic transmission. This model transmission does not have a removable pan like a conventional automatic. This is not a problem, however, as there's a drain plug on the bottom side, allowing you to easily drain 5 quarts out of the trans no fuss, no muss. I purchased 6 quarts of Pennzoil Platinum LV "multi-vehicle" trans fluid from Amazon. The product I received was different from what was pictured in Amazon's listing. After thinking I was duped, I consulted the "Bob Is The Oil Guy" forums, and was reassured this fluid is fully compatible with any GM automatic trans. GM will not allow the "DEXRON VI" licensed name to be placed on a product that's not compatible with its transmissions. That said, this is a full synthetic fluid. It was reasonably priced, so if you have a 6T70e trans in your vehicle, why not drain and fill the fluid every 6 months? So follow along as my "assistant" and I show you where the drain plug is located, and also where to add fresh fluid. After all the old fluid was drained out, it took exactly 5 quarts of fluid to bring it to the proper level. That being said, ALWAYS remember to check your fluid level after adding the proper 5 quarts with the vehicle idling in PARK and the engine up to operating temperature.
