As fighting has raged for several days around the mining town of Rubaya, in North Kivu province in eastern DRC, several sources confirmed to Africa Insider the death of the rebel movement’s military spokesperson, Willy Ngoma. “He died in a drone strike in Masisi territory,” a senior AFC/M23 official told us. The exact circumstances of his death remain unclear. Several sources report numerous injuries, which the previously cited movement official declined to confirm.
