3 Exercises For Pectus Excavatum

As someone who was born with pectus excavatum and went on to have the Nuss procedure performed to correct it, I've experimented with just about every combination of exercises you could think of to improve the look of PE. Here are three of my favorite exercises to begin bringing balance back to your physique. First, you need to know that exercise is absolutely not going to fix pectus excavatum. Not even close. There is no evidence that exercise can reposition the sternum and ribcage in any meaningful way as it relates to this condition. Exercise is a means of improving physical appearance through muscle growth and postural changes. This can give a huge boost to self-confidence but is by no means a way of avoiding surgery if you need it. That being said, this video walks you through the high-level overview of “how” to train your upper body if you have PE and provides a few exercise patterns to start with. Key Takeaways: 1. If you’re training it every day, you’re not pushing hard enough in any one session to maximally stimulate growth, and you are not allowing for a recovery period to ensue, which is when your muscles can actually grow.
