I have uploaded another of our vintage videos to YouTube. Here are Dave Sheriff and The Haley Sisters together at the popular Mustang CMC at Canvey Island, Essex in 1992. The Haleys had only been together as an act for two years when this was filmed. Please subscribe to our channel and ‘ding’ the bell for notification of new videos. Please 'like' (if you do) but either way leave us a comment. YouTube likes and comments are important as they encourage YouTube to promote more British Country videos and our channel. Dave Sheriff was born near Droitwich in Worcestershire. The family then moved to the Reading area in Berkshire where Dave, in 1958, made his first public appearance at Bradfield Village Hall. He played the harmonica, beginning a lifetime fascination of playing musical instruments. After teaching himself to play drums, he progressed to guitar, then started playing all three instruments together to become a very popular club act, and a world famous ‘One Man Band’ having no less than nine entries in the Guinness Book of Records between 1982 and 1989. During the 1970s, he worked as a session musician and in the 1980's, Dave was 'discovered' playing at a Midlands talent showcase by entrepreneur Bernie Burgess who moulded his 'one man band' musical act into that of a polished cabaret performer. Dave began writing and recording in 1991 and his debut CD album ‘One Man Band Extraordinaire', which contained sixteen of his own songs, was awarded ‘Best Album’ at the 1993 ‘UK Country Music Radio Awards’. The Haley Sisters are Jo-Ann and Becky. They come from Bingley, West Yorkshire and from a very early age followed in their parents’ footsteps, showing a strong interest in music from all genres. They launched their singing career in 1989 coming together as a duo in 1990; they were soon playing all the major clubs and festivals. In June 1993, Brian Smith, usually known as Slidin' Smiffy joined the girls to form one of our best Country trios. Brian had previously worked in Nashville including working with Crystal Gayle. During the 1990's they also worked as a quartet with a drummer. In 1996 the Haley Sisters won the Best UK Group\ Duo award in the Great British Country Music Awards. The girls have been touring with Nathan Carter in recent years and are not seen so often on the club circuit these days. In April 2018 they opened for the UK Roy Orbison first of its kind, world Hologram Arena tour. During the early 1990s Dave Sheriff regularly played with the newly formed Haley Sisters working in clubs and festivals around the UK until Brian Smith joined The Haleys in 1993. The highlight of Dave’s career has to be singing at the world famous Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, USA where he was invited to appear in June 2000 by Porter Wagoner. Dave returned to Nashville in September 2005 to start recording the highly acclaimed ’Overworked & Underpaid’ album. After a lifetime in country music Dave is still working solo but in recent years he has cut down on traveling.
