A side event hosted by Norwegian People’s Aid and the International Campaign to Ban Landmines during the Mine Ban Treaty Intersessional Meetings (Geneva, 19 June 2025) explored why the Convention remains a vital pillar of international humanitarian law and civilian protection. Revisiting the humanitarian imperative that led to its adoption and the progress achieved since, the event also challenged recent claims about the military utility and so-called “humanitarian benefits” of non-persistent antipersonnel mines.
