Choreographic Legacy: The Avant-Garde (TRIXY CHECAIS)

''Choreographic Legacy: The Avant-Garde'' is the second episode of the documentary series ''Choreographic Legacy" which presents the activity of another generation of Romanian dancers and choreographers of the 20th century, such as Lizica Codreanu, Iris Barbura, Trixy Checais, Gabriel Negry and Vera Proca Ciortea, who contributed to the configuration of modern Romanian dance. Trixy Checais (1914–1990) Renowned for the extraordinary expressiveness of his body language, Trixy Checais was a principal dancer of the Romanian National Opera in Bucharest, where he endowed the roles he performed with a distinctive interpretive depth. He gave recitals on the major stages of Bucharest and across the country, for which he created both the choreography and the costumes himself. A graduate in fine arts, he presented his works in several exhibitions, the most recent being in Constanța, inspired by the poems of Omar Khayyam. The final part of his artistic career unfolded almost in anonymity at the Galați Musical Theatre, where he was “exiled” after being sentenced to forced labor at the Danube–Black Sea Canal. There, he was credited on the posters of no fewer than 43 productions, as choreographer, director, set designer, costume designer, and occasionally as a performer.
