We set off from our campervan for an early-morning hike to Sycamore Gap on Hadrian’s Wall, and it’s absolutely worth the climb! A stunning sunrise, a deer sighting, and some unexpectedly steep, slippy trails make for an unforgettable start to the day. There’s a heart-stopping moment near a sheer drop, some very questionable Roman history from Steve (what weapons did they use, exactly?), and maybe even a hidden turret. Seeing the famous sycamore tree stump sprouting new life is bittersweet... but hopeful. Our “easy way back” turns into a mini adventure in itself, thanks to a locked gate — so it’s back up and over a boggy hill before we go in search of a well-earned breakfast stop!
