Composting is doable and it miraculously can manage up to 50% of our kitchen waste and most of our garden waste. So it is worth a try, right? Valid questions like what is composting, why should we do it, and what are the different ways of doing it are answered in this 3-part series dedicated to composting. Aim is to answer your basic doubts about composting and to get you started on this journey. Do watch. So what is composting? it is recycling of organic matter (WET WASTE) to produce humus; it is a natural process sped up in ideal environment. It can be of three types: Aerobic Anerobic Vermicomposting Now coming to WHY we should do composting? Its because : 1. 50% of our kitchen waste can be diverted away from the landfill - which is great because there will be corresponding lower Sanitation related diseases Eye sore spots Foul smell Tourism losses 2. COMPOST IS AN EXCELLENT SOIL AMENDMENT - increases soil fertility, water retention, soil texture, and so much more 3. COMPOSTING SLOWS DOWN CLIMATE CHANGE - Methane is emitted from wet waste dump, which is a potent greenhouse gas that accelerates global warming and climate change. So basically by composting our kitchen waste at home, we are slowing down climate change and hence reducing the likelihood of catastrophic events like floods, droughts, cyclones, etc. Did you found this video useful?
