Relevance of IPSS-R for risk stratification in patients with MDS who undergo SCT

Fernando Barroso Duarte, MD, Federal University of Ceara, Clinical Hospital, Fortaleza, Brazil, discusses the relevance of the Revised International Prognostic Scoring System (IPSS-R) for patients with myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) who undergo stem cell transplantation (SCT). Prof. Barroso Duarte shares results from a study of patients who underwent SCT in Latin America, where the infrastructure to collect molecular data for the molecular IPSS (IPSS-M) is often unavailable. Prof. Barroso Duarte explains that risk stratification using the IPSS-R can still influence outcomes in SCT candidates, particularly in terms of overall survival (OS).
