Continuing on from the Sony AX100 review and Sony AX100 / AX33 Accessories review, I dig a bit deep into the accessories I feel a required to get the complete video recording package whether you are new to this, or looking to upgrade your older hardware to the latest . The first “dig deeper review” covers an additional on camera light source, the Sony HVL-LEIR1. A text version of all reviews in my video camera series can be found at http://www.panelreview.com This battery powered LED / IR light – A Video camera light, serves two purposes. The first and in most cases the most important – an additional powered light source that really does help light darkened areas up. The second – its IR flashlight capability. This is a powered assist for Sony videos cameras that support night time shooting. It is important to note, that the night vision only amplifies the on-board cameras night vision, so if your video camera doesn’t have night vision, this feature will not work. In this review, I cover the HVL-LEIR1 features, unboxing and a quick field test to test how this device works in the various scenario’s you would most likely use it in. Due to this device being a Sony external accessory – it will only be compatible with Sony camcorders due to their unique Sony compatible only hot shoe design. The great thing about this AX100 / AX33 accessory though, is does not require to be fastened to the hot shoe and can be placed anywhere that makes more sense since it uses batteries and not the camcorders on-board battery to operate.
