Extinct Tapir and Diverse Ice Age Fossils Found Freediving | Florida Fossil Hunting Episode 04

The rivers in Florida are finally low enough to fossil hunt. Colton from Bonevalleycollections joined me on the river to start the season and we discovered an insane amount of megafauna fossils! It took us over an hour to hike out to the spot and we spent the entire day freediving and fossil hunting in up to 10 feet of water. One specific hole had fossils from a giant ground sloth, extinct Florida tapir, giant tortoise, extinct bison, giant beaver, and extinct horse. Florida does not have dinosaur fossils but it has one of the best deposits of ice age fossils in the world with mammoths, mastodons, and sabre tooth cats. The Pleistocene fossils from this site are between 14,000 and 150,000 years old. This same week we also managed to find Mammoth, Mastodon, and Rhino fossils which we will be uploading later in the week! We plan on hunting for a diversity of fossils all throughout the eastern seaboard this year including beautiful Megalodon teeth, great white shark teeth, and more megafauna creatures.
