The Transfăgărășan or DN7C is a paved mountain road crossing the southern section of the Carpathian Mountains of Romania. In popular culture, Transylvania is commonly associated with vampires, due to the influence of Bram Stoker's 1897 novel Dracula and the many subsequent books and films that the story has inspired. Transylvania is also called the Land of Dracula, because Vlad III, commonly known as Vlad the Impaler (Vlad Țepeș) or Vlad Dracula, was Voivode of Wallachia three times between 1448 and his death in 1476/77. He is often considered one of the most important rulers in Wallachian history and a national hero of Romania. Vlad III is known as Vlad Țepeș (or Vlad the Impaler) in Romanian historiography. This sobriquet is connected to the impalement that was his favorite method of execution. Corvin Castle Corvin Castle, is a Gothic-Renaissance castle in Hunedoara, Romania. It is one of the largest castles in Europe and is featured as one of the Seven Wonders of Romania. Corvin Castle was laid out in 1446, when construction began by order of Voivode of Transylvania John Hunyadi (Romanian: Iancu or Ioan de Hunedoara). Rasnov Fortress Râșnov Fortress is a medieval fortress, which offered refuge for townspeople and villagers from the area in times of war. It is situated in Râșnov, Brașov County, not far from Brașov. Sighișoara Clock Tower In every fortification system there is one fortress that dominates the others: the master-tower. The Clock Tower of Sighișoara is the main entry point to the citadel, opposite guarded by Tailors' Tower. With its 64 meters of height, the tower is visible from almost every corner of the city from Mures County, its purpose was to defend the main gate of the citadel and also served as the town hall until 1556. Now It's considered one of the most expressive clock tower in the whole Transylvania. Fortress of Deva The Fortress of Deva is a fortress located in the city of Deva, Hunedoara County, Romania, on top of a volcanic hill. The fortress is connected with the foot of the hill by an inclined lift which allows tourists to reach the fortress. Rupea Fortress Rupea Fortress is a medieval fortress built by Transylvanian Saxons and first mentioned by a 1324 document. It is situated on a 120 m high basalt cliff, to the west of the Transylvanian town of Rupea in Romania. The fortress is located on DN13, 70 km from Brașov, on the road to Sighișoara. It was restored in 2010–2013. Făgăraș Citadel Făgăraș Citadel is a historic monument in Făgăraș, Brașov County, Romania. The construction of the fortress started in 1310, on the site of a wooden fortification with earth ramparts from the 12th century. Archeological research shows that the old fortification was violently destroyed around the middle of the 13th century, presumably in connection with the Mongol invasion of 1241. Located halfway between Brașov and Sibiu and close to Wallachia, the Făgăraș Citadel provided a defensive position against possible incursions into south-eastern Transylvania. Bran Castle Bran Castle is a castle in Bran, 25 kilometres southwest of Brașov. It is a national monument and landmark in Transylvania. The fortress is on the Transylvanian side of the historical border with Wallachia. Commonly known outside Transylvania as Dracula's Castle. The Wallachian ruler Vlad Țepeș (Vlad the Impaler; 1448–1476) does not seem to have had a significant role in the history of the fortress, although he passed several times through the Bran Gorge. Peleș Castle Peleș Castle is a Neo-Renaissance castle in the Carpathian Mountains, near Sinaia, in Prahova County, Romania, on an existing medieval route linking Transylvania and Wallachia, built between 1873 and 1914. Its inauguration was held in 1883. It was constructed for King Carol I. Several auxiliary buildings were built simultaneously with the castle: the guards' chambers, the Economat Building, the Foișor hunting lodge, the royal stables, and a power plant. Peleș became the world's first castle fully powered by locally produced electricity. On People Like Places channel I show you how to travel smart and how to choose the best destination to travel.
