http://YoChicago.com The Ben Rose house and pavilion has been said to be the most important modernist home in Chicago. It was designed by A. James Speyer, a student of Mies van der Rohe, for Ben Rose, an internationally-known textile designer, and built in 1953. In 1974 David Haid, another of Mies' students, designed an addition to house Rose's vintage car collection and his studio. The home and addition are set on a dramatic, heavily-wooded ravine, bringing the residents into intimate contact with a wonderful natural setting. I was joined on a tour of the home by Philip Berger, a journalist who has written about architecture for decades for a number of publications. The home is listed for sale for $1.5 million with Coldwell Banker's Meladee Hughes. Meladee can be reached at 312-636-0820.
