Alan Wake Episode 2 Elevator Bug Workaround

I ran into this bug during one of my playthroughs and I did NOT want to have to restart the whole level. I was finally able to make it through this section by using a barrel and the wooden hook structure. I'll detail how I did this below. But first, these are the things I tried that didn't work: Dying and respawning Going back to a previous checkpoint I missed earlier, dying, and respawning from there Going all the way back to the beginning of the area (before the bear traps) Exiting to main menu and reloading I didn't try closing and restarting the game. Probably wouldn't work but might be worth a try. 0:00 - Entrance 0:13 - The Bug 0:26 - The Barrel 0:45 - Position the Barrel 0:53 - Upright the Barrel 1:00 - Jump Jump Jump 1:38 - Top of the Hook Entrance Upon entering this area, you can actually hear the tapping sound of the lift car bugging out against the stairs. The Bug Here you can see the actual bug: the lift is stuck in the stair geometry. It is stuck a little different each time and sometimes you can't get through. If this is the case, simply die and try again from the checkpoint. When you can finally make it through, proceed to the next level up. The Barrel Just because you were able to get past the elevator lift doesn't mean you can pull this workaround off. The hardest part is getting the barrel to spawn in the right place. Most of the time, for me, the barrel had already fallen to the bottom level or was somewhere else. You need it to be on the same level in the area shown in the video. If it's not, you will need to respawn and keep respawning until it's there. Position the Barrel VERY carefully nudge the barrel into position. If it falls you will need to completely start over so be careful! You can see where I pushed the barrel in the video. During my jumping attempts, I wished I had positioned it more at the end of the hook (where the metal part is), but I don't know if this would've been better or worse. It just seemed like the top of the vertical post was hindering me. Upright the Barrel When the barrel is positioned, do a quick run at the flat end to flip it upright. Get on top of the barrel and use it as a platform to jump onto the hook thing. Jump Jump Jump This part is tricky because there's no silver bullet here. I cut out all the in between attempts to keep the video length down, but it only took me around 7 minutes of trying to get it. Ultimately, you want to cause Alan to jump-climb the hook so that he gets on top of it. Try jumping in different ways and figure out what causes him to float a little. Try combinations of jumping, run-jumping etc. I was about to give up, but I just kept at it, trying different angles of Alan and different camera angles. At the end it seemed like angling the camera down and jumping a little to the side of the vertical post, as shown, worked best in my case. Top of the Hook You made it! Now carefully jump to the platform and don't do anything stupid until you hit the next checkpoint. You do NOT want to go through all that again!
