Die in the Dungeon - Early Access Playthrough

A playthrough of the early access version of Die in the Dungeon, a deckbuilder dice game where you're entering a dungeon to rough up people with the power of high rolls. I received a key to try this game and, having not played many deckbuilders (not really sure why I never really get into the genre) with good things heard about this one, I gave it a go for a few tries. This is a second successful run that definitely was carried in Area 3 just from abusing the hell out of the Shadow Cloak relic (it would have been crazier if I had gotten the Reptilian Scales relic that hurts an enemy for half your block every round). It's actually a bit of a fun game and you'll probably like it if you enjoy the genre. As for myself I don't think I've got to the part where I fully get it as compared to say Dungeon Clawler (which I found playing on Nightmare not too bad) this is only the base difficulty. It does feel a bit more challenging especially if luck isn't on your side but I wonder if that's because a consistent means to heal takes a bit to acquire since heal dice seem to always be glass (usable once per fight) and your starting one is faulty (so you can't remove the glass property at a blacksmith). There's also a lot of extra dice type that show up in Area 3 that just aren't too useful by the time they appear so experimenting with them is difficult (as if you only get like 5-6 dice per turn the last thing you want is to have your first round contain garbage rolls). I haven't played around with everything yet but the heavy property (especially with block dice) is usually very strong since it'll keep them on the board for rounds equal to the face on the die and otherwise circumvent energy/available dice limitations. Gravity is similar to heavy (it moves down one spot on the board every turn and then goes back into your hand so it's like a 2-3 round heavy if you place it at the top) but I found it less useful. Retry (a free reroll every turn) on a die pairs super well with Cinder's +1 from rerolling as you can boost a die pretty consistently that way (it does kind of bug out if you try rerolling multiple dice in your hand in one turn, using up your stocked rerolls). Hollow (-1 energy cost for a die) is an especially good property for your d8s. Flash plays the dice the instant it's played which in most cases I found more situational (i.e. the Mantis Duo has it be quite useful). Special dice seem much better if they're d4/d6 because of energy costs. Draw dice gives X number of draws but more than one of these is worthless because you'll often get more draws than you can feasibly make use of (even if you have 20 draws if you can only add 1-3 more dice a turn you might not see the full benefit). Coin dice give +6 coins if the die value is 5 or higher (so boosting it can overcome a low roll) as a means to make more money but every time I've seen it was as a d8 (so 2 energy to play when you start with 3 energy per turn). Energizer dice are amazing just to get +1 energy for X rounds when you're often starved for energy (especially in the early game). Regen dice are also great just because they aren't always glass and if you boost them to a high value they'll heal much more than your heal dice could. Thorns dice work well with a high block build (like with the one I used here). I didn't play around with Mirror dice yet but a d4 with it could be potentially powerful (but it runs into the same issue as boost dice). Terrain dice works like boost dice but only for a spot so I didn't care for it much. I'm not a huge fan of boost dice because of boost dice because increasing the value of the face die also increases the number of tiles away it's played on so any value above 4 is useless. Even with its best benefit at +2 or +3 (netting +8 or +6 if used perfectly) requires good placement. That you start with three of them makes ditching 1-2 early on a good idea. Relics can change up your playstyle a good bit too. I loved one relic called Magnetic Rocks that gives a +4 to any die with a face value of 0 - if you then redistribute values on your d4s to be 0/0/0/4 then they'll always have the maximum benefit (or 0/0/0/6/6/6) but this can be costly. 0:00 Character Select 0:11 Area 1 9:21 Boss 1 16:28 Area 2 46:08 Boss 2 51:14 Area 3 1:20:34 Final Boss 1:24:49 End Run Stats Die in the Dungeon can be purchased at https://store.steampowered.com/app/20...   My Social Media Stuff:   / discord     / crankytemplar
