Professor Robert West from the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health at UCL argues that researchers should use well-established principles to report the conclusions of their research. There has been much negative reporting of e-cigarette science stories, on many occasions this is linked to how the science is presented in a press release, or by the researcher. This is important because smokers believe that e-cigarettes may present the same risk as cigarettes and politicians may engage in heavy-handed regulation that might prevent or limit access to what is a much less harmful alternative to the cigarette.
