We departed from Lucca (LIQL), Italy. Due to the complex approach routes for the busy Nice Côte d'Azur Airport, our flight plan required a rather uneconomical route across the Mediterranean Sea. This initially took us almost 50 miles south, almost to Corsica. 18 miles north of Corsica at FL190 we were cleared west towards Saint-Tropez. Unfortunately, we were not allowed to stay at this reasonably economical flight altitude. 100 (!) Miles before our destination we were instructed to descend to 5000 ft. 60 miles before La Môle the controller even wanted us down to 2000 ft. But Markus was able to enforce to stay at 5000 ft. So we flew for the last 60 (!) miles above the Mediterranean to Saint-Tropez in 5000 ft and below. So we were in the air for 1 hour and 10 minutes to cover this 340 km direct route.
