GROUNDHOPPING TO THE MIKES ⚽ | BACK IN MY DAY FC This week, we travelled to St Michaels DHFC, a proper grassroots club based in Widnes, Cheshire – and this one was full of character, graft and community spirit. Set behind St Michael’s Catholic Primary School, this ground is the heart of Ditton football. There’s no turnstile or tannoy – just a well-loved pitch, a few passionate volunteers, and the kind of sideline banter that reminds you what non-league football is all about. ⚽ About the Club St Michaels DHFC was founded around 1966, and today they compete in the Cheshire Football League Premier Division, after steady progress through the Warrington & District Football League system. The club runs: • A First Team (Premier Division) • A Reserve Team • A Development Squad • A full junior setup! It’s a club with ambition, but rooted in tradition – and clearly building something long-term with its youth system and multiple teams. 🧑💼 The People Behind It The club is led by a team of volunteers, with Neil Greenfield serving as Club Secretary & Team Manager for the last 25 years who also played for the club. Also must pay a mention to Emma’s cafe, we got a lovely smile and a nice cuppa. These people put in the hours that no one sees – looking after the pitch, registering players, sorting kit, and making sure Saturday football lives on. 🎟️ Matchday Experience No frills. Just real football. • Free entry • Friendly faces on the touchline • A pitch with bags of personality • Fancy a Post-match pint? Seems their local is ‘The New Inn’ and you’ll likely find players, coaches and supporters enjoying a drink after the game. It’s grassroots football done right – honest, loud, and full of character. And we have to pay mention to a Mikes legend who sadly passed away recently - Ronnie Hough. 📊 Current Form (2025/26 Season) • The Mikes started the 2025/26 campaign with a 0–0 draw at home to Lostock Gralam on 2nd August 2025 • They’re competing alongside clubs like Parklands, Whalley Range, and Golborne Sports – a sign of their growing status in the non-league scene 🔗 Follow St Michaels DHFC • Instagram: @dhfc.stmichaels • Twitter (X): @StMichaelsDHFC • Facebook: St Michaels DHFC ⸻ 👀 WATCH, COMMENT, SUBSCRIBE Back in My Day FC – a few old blokes who are good mates, who’ve played a bit, managed a bit and ran successful amateur football clubs in Widnes, and who love a good pint and a laugh. Expect honest reviews, club history, dodgy memories and a few cheeky pints along the way. 👉 Subscribe for more groundhops, matchday stories, and non-league gems. 👍 Like the video if you’ve ever had a half-time cuppa on the touchline. 💬 Let us know: Where should we visit next?
