On March 27, 2021, we hiked #28 for us on the NH48 Mount Isolation 4,003′ Isolation is part of the Presidential Range of the White Mountains. It is the highest peak on the Montalban Ridge which extends south from Boott Spur. SPRING HIKING SAFETY TIPS: ALWAYS bring your snowshoes. Even if the first mile of the trail is melted. The spring is the most critical time to be using snowshoes to get you out of a bad situation of snowmelt Remember to bring a raincoat for the snowmelt that may be dropping from the trees above Always pack extra food/water, headlamp, and a bivy for emergencies Inform yourself of any shortcuts or changes to your route during the shoulder season Use caution when approaching river crossings in the spring. Snowmelt may cause the river to be extremely higher than normal. Hike along the river and scout out the safest possible area to cross, and walk in a diagonal upstream to have better traction in the water. You can even bring water shoes and a towel to stay dry and comfortable. WINTER GEAR WE USE: Evan: Kahtoola MICROspikes Tubbs Wilderness Snowshoes (Black) Black Diamond Hiking Poles (Orange) Caro: Kahtoola K10 Crampons Women’s Tubbs Flex Alp 22 Snowshoes (Blue) Black Diamond Expedition 3 Poles (White) Please feel free to leave your questions below!
