Drive up Pikes Peak in Colorado | Was It Worth It?!

September 28, 2016 Pikes Peak | Elevation 14,115 I faced my fears, and did one of the scarier things I have ever done. I drove up Pikes Peak, in a Ford Expedition mind you. The drive took me about 30-50 minutes maybe... I didn't keep track of time. It really wasn't a bad drive, and scenery was gorgeous! Was this drive worth the anxiety? ABSOLUTELY. The drive up was amazing, and for those of you that have to be in the drivers seat, please don't spend too much time trying to view the scenery... there are plenty of pull offs on the way up to enjoy the view! It cost me $12 since I was alone. There is actually plenty to do on the way up. There are pull offs to enjoy the view and take pictures. There are multiple hikes along the way, places to have a picnic, fishing spots and a couple of souvenir shops that I bypassed. At the top, there is little oxygen, so move slow, don't get too excited, expect to be a little lightheaded, and you will be fine! Oh! Don't forget about the Cog Railway! It takes you up the mountain, and gives you time at the top to enjoy the view, gift shop, bathrooms and the small cafeteria. I didn't take the train up, but definitely will on my next trip, just for a different experience! Again, I drove a Ford Expedition up the mountain, so don't think your car is too big... that thing was a tank! So, take your time, drive SAFELY, enjoy the views, take advantage of the pull offs, and enjoy driving up to 14,115 feet! Well worth the trip if you are anywhere near Denver or Colorado Springs!!
