Watch to the end to see us dig up the original stone steps! 🤩 If you own an old house, you should NOT be using damp proofing rods to resolve damp issues. Damp proofing is just treating the symptoms. It's not fixing the cause of the problem. In this instance, we had two areas of damp and we noticed that these areas were where the drainpipes drained away. After doing a bit of digging (literally), we noticed that the drainage pipes were clogged, so ALL the water from the roof was seeping into the foundations at these two spots, saturating the walls and causing damp inside. It only took my builder 2 days to resolve the issue completely, and now there are no damp issues in these areas. 👍 If I'd have paid for damp proofing rods, they'd have just pushed the damp to somewhere else. AND there was the added bonus of discovering the old stone steps. Clearly the ground level has been raised at some point for some reason, which isn't good for the foundations.
