This could have never been achieved without the excellent teamwork with Dimos. The big Grouper was initially spotted by me 5days ago. That day I managed a shot at -43,5m without success due to the weakness of my 115cm 2x16mm 7mm speargun (ideal for smaller preys). Yesterday afternoon I paid the spot a visit. Dimos did a dive for a beautiful Goldblotch grouper and spotted the big Dusky hovering a few meters deeper beyond the ledge. On his return to the surface, Dimos thoroughly described to me what he has seen and where to locate the fish. I borrowed Dimos mightly 135cm 8mm double roller and started relaxation and breathing cause I knew the dive was going to be long! -46,5m latter I shot the big dusky head-on between the eyes! The fish however was not instantly killed and managed to enter its den loosely. Dimos performed the next dive with intention to secure the fish with a second spear and try to unstuck it from its lair. But the fish was still very much alive and has blurred the waters around resulting to minimum visibility. The depth was -50,8m! I was in awe and had a hard time relaxing on the surface for the next dive. After some good 12mins I descended once again only to find out that the strong current had shifted me during my decent far from the wounded fish. A fruitless -49,5m dive. It was Dimos turn again to try and secure the fish. Success! He managed to put a spear on the sides of the fish and pulled it out as much as he could. The fish was almost "free'' to be pulled from the surface but a final dive was necessary in order to cut loose some tangled fishing lines around the shafts. I made the final dive with a very sharp knife in my hands. I pulled the fish and cut the lines at -50,7m and the fish was finally "free"! The celebration that followed on the surface right after was unprecedented! Not because of the sheer size of the grouper but because we both have done a series of incredible dives and that felt amazing!!!!!! Teamwork at it's best! Video shortly! Stay tunned! -51m! Η βαθύτερη ψαριά μου μέχρι σήμερα! Αυτό δε θα μπορούσε ποτέ να έχει επιτευχθεί χωρίς την εξαιρετική συνεργασία με τον Δήμο. Ο μεγάλος Ροφός είχε αρχικά εντοπιστεί από μένα 5 ημέρες νωρίτερα. Εκείνη την ημέρα κατάφερα μια βολή στα -43,5m χωρίς επιτυχία λόγω της αδυναμίας του όπλου μου των 115 εκατοστών με 2x16mm και 7 χιλιοστά βέργα (ιδανικό για μικρότερα θηράματα). Χθες το απόγευμα επισκέφτηκα το σημείο. Ο Δήμος έκανε μια βουτιά για μια όμορφη Στείρα και εντόπισε το μεγάλο Ροφό να αιωρείται μερικά μέτρα βαθύτερα πέρα από το κόψιμο. Με την επιστροφή του στην επιφάνεια, μου περιέγραψε λεπτομερώς ότι έχει δει και πού να εντοπίσω το ψάρι. Δανείστηκα το διπλό ρόλλερ κανόνι των 135 εκατοστών με την 8αρα βέργα του Δήμου και άρχισα χαλάρωση και αναπνοές καθότι ήξερα ότι η κατάδυση θα ήταν μεγάλη! -46,5 μέτρα αργότερα έριξα στο μεγάλο ψάρι στο κεφάλι ανάμεσα στα μάτια! Το ψάρι, ωστόσο, δεν σκοτώθηκε ακαριαία και κατάφερε να μπει πρόχειρα στο θαλάμι του. Ο Δήμος θα πραγματοποιήσει την επόμενη κατάδυση με πρόθεση να εξασφαλίσει το ψάρι με μια δεύτερη βολή και να προσπαθήσει να το ξεκολλήσει από την τρύπα του. Αλλά το ψάρι ήταν ακόμα πολύ ζωντανό και είχε θολώσει τα νερά γύρω του με αποτέλεσμα η ορατότητα να είναι ελάχιστη. Το βάθος ήταν -50,8m! Με έπιασε δέος δυσκολεύοντας με να χαλαρώσω στην επιφάνεια για την επόμενη βουτιά. Μετά από 12 γεμάτα λεπτά, κατέβηκα και πάλι αλά το ισχυρό ρεύμα με είχε μετατοπίσει κατά τη διάρκεια της κατάδυσης μακριά από το πληγωμένο ψάρι. Μια άκαρπη βουτιά στα -49,5m. Ήταν σειρά του Δήμου να προσπαθήσει και πάλι να εξασφαλίσει το ψάρι. Επιτυχία! Κατάφερε να φυτέψει μια καλή βολή στα πλευρικά του ψαριού και το τράβηξε έξω όσο μπορούσε. Το ψάρι ήταν σχεδόν «ελεύθερο» να τραβηχτεί από την επιφάνεια, αλλά μια τελευταία βουτιά ήταν αναγκαία για να κοπούν κάποια μπερδεμένα παραγάδια στις βέργες. Επιχειρώ την τελική βουτιά με ένα πολύ κοφτερό μαχαίρι στα χέρια μου. Τράβηξα το ψάρι και έκοψα τις μπερδεμένες πετονιές στα -50,7m «ελευθερώνοντας» το κτήνος! Οι πανηγυρισμοί που ακολούθησαν στην επιφάνεια αμέσως μετά δεν είχαν προηγούμενο! Όχι λόγω του μεγάλου μεγέθους του Ροφού, αλλά επειδή και οι δύο κάναμε μια σειρά από απίστευτες καταδύσεις και νιώθαμε εκπληκτικά !!!!!!
