I saw modelers scratch building parts or modifying models or even building entire models from scratch. I was never able to do that, since my building skills are not that developed. In December 2020, I learnt about Formlab Form 3. I never did CAD before, only heard about it. But, I knew about a free CAD software that ran in a web browser - it is called onshape (check it out on onshape.com). And they provide basic tutorial for free which I took and then I started to play around. I wanted to build something simpler, so I picked this MTZ-82. At least I thought it would be simple. It was not :-) I started to work on this project some time in February 2021 and finished the last bits in August 2021. I managed to build the full CAD model, 3D print it and build it. There were moments of desperation, but many more moments of just pure joy. I ran out of “steam” at least 3 times and built some models as side projects just to take a break from this one. I am glad that I did persevere. Now, you can watch parts of this journey in this short video. Model: Based on Balaton Modell, MTZ-82, BM3542 CAD: onshape.com Parts: 132 resin parts, 8 clear parts Clear parts laser cut at ponoko.com Notes on build: White glue would have been far better option for the clear parts that CA. I managed to damage them in couple of places. Mr Surface 1000 seems to be too thick and throws off some of the small tolerances I left in place Proper surface preparation like sanding down some build line is needed, the technology is not there yet for small scales. But, clever part design can work around a lot of problems. Complicated surfaces like airplane fuselage, wings, etc. are probably not viable, yet. Language note: красный трактор (krasnyy traktor) means “red tractor” in Russian. “Krasny” in Czech means “beautiful”. I know that Minsk is in Belarus, not in Russia.
