The Bargate Quarter and town walls have been symbols of Southampton since the 12th century. The project to restore them, and to introduce a new residential and retail scheme to the city, was undertaken with a great deal of care and thought. It was also an opportunity to bring high quality retail and dining brands to the city, reflecting its appeal and influence across the region and beyond. As well as drawing people from the immediate area, the development would help to increase Southampton's draw as a tourist destination, highlighting the local history in combination with an appealing modern retail and hospitality scene.
